The Pentagon in Arlington, VA
The Pentagon in Arlington, VA, is a big five-sided building in Arlington County, near Washington, DC. This building was constructed from 1941 to 1943, and the construction was intended to consolidate all the officers of the War Department that occupied 17 separate facilities in Washington. The former US president, Franklin D. Roosevelt, initially wanted a building without a window to protect it from potential air raids. Later on, he was convinced by the building engineers that such would be impractical, so eventually, he supported the five-sided design. The completion costs $83 million, and today, it remains one of the world’s largest office buildings covering 29 acres or 12 hectares.
